Personality
Harper is the quiet type. That does not necessarily mean that he is shy, but that he chooses his words carefully and uses them sparingly. He never says anything unless he has something to say. In many ways, he is reclusive, and prefers the company of nature to the company of people-probably due to his traditional Askion uprbinging. As far as people go, he is unsure and awkward around them, but is always willing to put his best foot forward, even though he often falls flat on his face. Peace and quiet in the serenity of the forest are the only things he really wants, but he has discovered that living on Eden will take more than hermitage to survive. Harper has discovered that he is quite lonely.
Plants have always held a certain sort of fascination with Harper. He has been studying them as much as he could from a young age. While he has never really had professional schooling in botany, he provides botanical information to the people of Eden. The fact that they are on a new and undiscovered sort of planet is so thrilling for him. He has already spent many long hours in the woods studying the local plant life.

History
Harper lived a very traditional sort of life on Askion. His parents lived in a cabin a few miles outside of the nearest town, though more often than not they would spend their nights camping out in the forest. When he was younger, Harper loved to sit around the campfire and listen to their stories of adventure and discovery. They were very loving and understanding parents and were the first ones to instill the love of plants in him. As their only child, one might think he was spoiled, but they treated him as an equal more than their inferior. He went out with them and did his share of the work, all the happier for it.
When he was eleven, his mother took ill. For the first year, Harper and his father tried to be a comfort for her, bringing her herbs that would ease the pain she suffered. After a year, however, Harper's father began to withdraw from both of them and become distant. Harper never gave up hope and continued their efforts alone. Unfortunately, his mother did finally succumb to her illness when Harper was thirteen, but she made him promise that he would not be sad about it. She told him she was ready to return to nature, that her journey was simply over and it was time to start a new adventure. Harper's father was never the same. Harper continued living the life he had lived before, only now he was alone in it all.
When his summons came, Harper was surprised, to say the least. His father was not. For the first time since his mother had died, his father smiled at him and told him that this was his chance to start over and be happy. He told him that he would be the start of something wonderful. Before he knew it, Harper was on his way to Eden.
