Wandering around by herself was one of the last things Kai wanted. In fact, she would have preferred to hide in her room. But the roommates that she didn't know were bound and determined to get her to fit in... or they were trying. That meant ridiculous amounts of talking.... which Kai didn't do. She preferred to listen, adding to the conversation when need be. Not any more not any less. She would have got Grayson to tag along, but he was off doing something, who knows what.
So here she was by herself. It was a strange feeling, the town much smaller than the one she had grown up in. It was almost to bare for her liking, there definitely wasn't enough people, no claustrophobic feeling to the atmosphere. With no destination in mind, she walked aimlessly, losing herself in the town and her own thoughts. It wasn't until she thought she walked into a wall did she come back to reality... and embarrassingly enough, realized she had run into another individual. "Sorry!" she said to the unknown person.

In terms of personal space, Everett could be pretty lenient. Unfortunately for Kai, he drew the line at strange girls colliding into him, threatening his balance and well... essentially giving rise to a nagging self conscious feeling.
Instinctively the twenty year old reached both hands out, placing them on both the girl's shoulders to brace her as he took a step back. In part this was to keep her from falling, but more importantly, it was to define the amount of distance Everett wanted. An arm's length seemed appropriate. Mere seconds later Everett's left hand fell to his side, his right hand going to the back of his head, threading idly into his thick blond hair. He almost hoped the casual stance would lighten the moment.
"Are you alright?" Everett's soft voice prompted, an easy grin appearing to further his attempt at easing any awkwardness that might be lingering.

To say that this was the first time, Kai had had a run in would be a lie. When by herself, she withdrew so much that any object in front of her was fair game. Today, without her friend by her side, she had ran into another human being. Something that was mortifying. She could have hurt them, or caused them to drop something... the list was endless. She managed to inwardly scold herself while feeling herself falling backwards. But the fall never came, and she stood there momentarily confused until she realized a pair of hands dropped off her shoulders. Glancing to the individual in front of her, Kai felt her cheeks reden. Taking a step back from him, she dropped her eyes. As he questioned her if she was alright, she nodded her head, refusing to look up for the moment. "Fine, thank you. Are you okay?" she returned, hoping he was indeed okay. Clasping her hands together awkwardly, she glanced up at him, surprised to see a grin on his face. She wanted to apologize again, but the words seemed to get stuck in her throat, she had already spoke to him more than she would other people. There was only one person who could get her to really talk, and he wasn't present at the time. Looking to the ground and back up at him she mumbled again, "Sorry." Normally she could be much more adaptable to situations like this, minus the talking of course. But still, to become a blubbering idiot wasn't really her style. At this moment, she didn't look at all like the mature individual she thought she was. Instead, she felt her cheeks redden some more.

Everett was what people would normally classify as shy, but compared to the blond in front of him he felt surprisingly... confident. As if her downcast gaze and unassuming nature was all the reason in the world to resist any impulse he might have to follow suit and clam up himself. His blue eyes trailed from her face down to her arms, scanning for any obvious sign of injury. Predictably there wasn't any immediate trauma that seemed to originate from the collision. When she spoke again, Everett's eyes darted back up to meet her raised gaze.
"Yeah, of course." Everett gave a short nod. "In fact, there's no point in being sorry. Livens the place up a bit, you know? It's weird not knowing anyone." Everett mused, his gaze wandered, taking in the scene and passing people behind Kai. Any sensible person would have stopped there, but not Everett. He kept going, giving voice to a feeling that was almost certainly better off unaddressed.
"Normally you're part of a city, or school, or something bigger. But now it feels so quiet all the time, like there's nothing in common." Everett shook his head. A small motion, but enough movement that Kai's face came back into view. "Never mind. I'm Everett Emery." Everett was not one for shaking hands but in this case it felt awkward to leave the introduction without some concluding action. So, after speaking Everett compelled himself to extend his left hand outward in her direction. player ! COBALT

After hearing that he indeed was okay, she visibly sighed in relief. And a relief it was. Both that he was not harmed from her ignorance, not to mention, he didn't seem angry about the incident. It was a blessing that he wasn't mad... she handled confrontation poorly. It was something if she could, she would ignore everytime hands down. So the fact that he wasn't scolding or yelling at her, made her feel that much more appreciative of the fact that she had ran into this certain individual. Finally she managed to look up at him, keeping her gaze on him. It was a step in the right direction at least to being more collected about the situation, not acting frazzled and embarrass herself further. With his admission that there was no point in being sorry, that it made for entertainment, she felt a smile break across her face. It was a small smile, but a smile none the less. She definitely understood his view about not knowing anyone. She was lucky to have Grayson here. Contemplating her words she finally spoke, "Thanks. It is weird being here, not knowing." How could she not agree? No longer was she surrounded by her home planet and its residents, instead she was on Eden. "I do know one person though, he came here with me." she admitted quietly after another moment. As he ranted about their new home, she stared at him in amazement. It made complete sense, it was like the population that was on Eden was walking on pins and needles. No one knew one another, didn't know how to react to each other or how to be comfortable around one another. It was a tad bit of a mess. Nodding her head she once again looked down, thinking about the words she would say. "Its true. Everyone is walking on eggshells. But I am sure soon enough it will be like at home, everyone will get to know each other." Looking back up from the ground around her feet, she breathed in. She was doing better than she thought talking to someone she had just met. She was sure her best friend would be proud of her for not running and hiding. Hearing him introduce himself, she felt her gaze travel from his face to his outstreached hand to his face. She wasn't expecting it, so it took her another moment to respond. "Kai. Kai Tinley." she responded, reaching her hand out slowly and grasping his hand lightly, retracting it after a quick handshake.

"Me too," Everett's expression brightened at the thought of his younger brother. It wasn't quite good enough to make up for leaving Tunia, but it did remind him to be thankful he wasn't completely alone.
"An optimist. You're probably right," Everett agreed, his tone still holding onto the positivity earned from her previous statement. Everett would fall into the category of pessimist more often than he'd like to admit, so he let the topic of socializing on Eden go.
"Tinley." Everett repeated thoughtfully as she retracted her hand. His own fell to his side. The name sounded very familiar but Everett Emery had no idea why. Being an Asnath resident for most of his life (though he'd swear up and down that he was a Tunia resident at heart) he was bound to run across the Tinley name amid the trading industry. But Everett's interest in the city of Asnath or any of the merchants was incredibly limited.
"Huh, Well, it's nice to meet you." Everett drew himself back to the present. There was time to worry about the familiarity of her surname later.
"I didn't mean to keep you." Everett stated, his tone holding a tinge of embarrassment as if his previous rambling was just now catching up to him.
"I do have one more question though, if you don't mind... I was looking for somewhere to get ice cream, but I seem to be wandering in circles." Everett's once confident grin became a sheepish one instead. It might have helped to clarify that the ice cream was more for a certain thirteen year old brother who claimed that a planet without ice cream was too much to bear, but Everett didn't offer the information.

It was nice to hear that he had someone on Eden for him as well. She was curious why, but for fear of being nosey and of having to speak more than she would like, she kept quiet. Instead, she smiled, her face brightening. The thought of coming to Eden alone was very much intimidating. It wasn't a new town in which you could run home if it didn't turn out the way you wanted, no, you were here for the rest of your lives. No turning back, only could keep going forward. As he mentioed her being optimistic, she smiled, nodding her head lightly. She always tried to look on the positive side of things. Of course that wasn't how she always had viewed her surroundings and happenings. Only since meeting her friend did her outlook change. Her parents had squished all the positivity out of her life before she had met him. Her life to was to make her parents happy, which turns out made her less than happy. "Well I hope so." she finally responded, knowing that the conversation couldn't be continued over head nods and smiles. Hearing her name from his lips she nodded, letting him know that he had said it right and it was indeed her last name. It seemed like he knew it, and she became curious to what planet he was from. There was such a mix of planets now, that it would surprise her if she had run into someone from Asnarth on her first outting by herself. "Yes, from Asnarth." she offered her planet, allowing him to know the origin of her name. "Nice to meet you as well." she returned, a smile crossing over her face again. His statment of keeping her was very far from the truth and she shook her head in disagreement that he had kept her from something. "No, I was wandering." she admitted to him, glancing around their new town. More and more people seemed to be filling the streets now, it was excting and scary at the same time. His question brought her back to the conversation and she paused. She had seen a ice cream shop. But where was it... "Um.... I think there was one backa couple blocks. I remember seeing an ice cream cone." She completely missed the sheepish look cross over his face due to her trying to inwardly retrace her steps. "I might remember. Want me to show you?" she offered.

"I moved to Asnarth when I was young," Everett clarified, hoping he might seem a little less strange for repeating her name if he told her that.
"Leave it to me to miss an ice cream cone." Everett's tone held amusement, but he wasn't really that amused. Aside from nervous, he didn't know what he was. It felt like he'd messed up somehow, shaking his momentary confidence. Either way, he continued to smile and pretend his words didn't feel like a stumbling mess to him.
"I wish I could honestly tell you I'd manage finding it myself, but I've been walking the streets longer than I'd care to admit," Everett replied. If it wasn't obvious, it might be fair to admit that Everett Emery was glad to have someone closer to his age than his kid brother to hold a conversation with. He wasn't lying though- he may have gotten a bit distracted, but he had been unable to find his destination. And hey, who wanted to eat ice cream all by themselves? Normally he could end one social engagement and wander into another quite by mistake. On Eden Everett would be lucky to speak two words to anyone else apart from Elias the rest of the day. player ! She couldn't deny that her curiosity of him peaked when she found out he was fron Asnarth. Well technically he was from somewhere else, but he ended up and grew up there. It was nice in a way to run into someone from her home planet, even if it wasn't her most favorite of places. "Oh my parent's own a shop. Tinley Trading. Maybe thats why its familiar." she once again offered, her voice quiet. She didn't so much like remembering her parents. Now that she was here, she was inawardly glad to say she didn't have parents. Kai smiled, shrugging her shoulders as if to say, what can you do. It always seemed to work that way. When you were looking for it, it could be staring you in the face, but you would look past it. When you weren't looking for it, you found it everywhere you turned. Life was funny that way. Like she wasn't looking for the ice cream shoppe, but she definitely seen it, whereas he wanted it, but to no avail, nothing. As he agreed to let her help him, her smile brightened considerably. She loved being able to help out, even if it was something as simple as walking to show someone a ice cream shoppe. Its why she loved being a medic, sure it wasn't a doctor, but she could help out with a lot of injuries, helping people to feel their best. "Okay, it was this way." she replied, the smile remaining on her face as she turned to walk back the direction she had come. She didn't check to see if he was following her, for she was fairly certain he wouldn't leave her walking by herself to the icre cream location. "I haven't had ice cream in ages." she said conversationally.

"Ah, right. That's probably it," Everett agreed. "I've seen your parents shop before, I think. But my father handles most of the trading." If he could have offered any memory or detail of the shop and her parents he would have in the hope of "proving" he was an Asnarth citizen and perhaps reminding her of home. Unfortunately- or perhaps fortunately- the name still felt only vaguely familiar to him. Like a word that got tossed around, but had never settled into the object it represented.
"Thanks," Everett smiled once more, following her lead. To her statement, Everett found himself pausing for a few seconds to consider as they walked. It'd be very odd to say he didn't care for ice cream, so he went with plan B. "My younger brother, Elias, loves ice cream. And anything sweet, but particularly ice cream, He said this place would probably be too primitive and he started sulking, so I told him ice cream was actually easy to make and that there was bound to be some citizen here who'd try it."
"And with that orchard so close, I bet they have a lot of fruit flavors. I mean, we can't have everything we had back home. Probably can't make our own chocolate bars, or anything. But ice cream is time, a little flavor, some sugar, milk, and cold temperatures... isn't it?" Everett had never in his life attempted- or considered- making ice cream before. Now he was pretty sure it was an easy science to crack and that, with some spare wood and a carving knife, he could make his own ice cream maker. Never mind that he was envisioning a butter churn, not an ice cream maker. player ! COBALT

Kai nodded her head, if he said he seen it, he probably had. It was actually pretty successful, and it did get pretty good business. It did help that they were in a more well traveled area of Asnarth. "To me every shop looks the same." she offered, a grin crossing over her face. Sure some shops stuck out, but for the most part, to Kai at least, they were all variations of one another. After ten minutes of walking, they all looked very much the same. "Could just be me though." she added quickly, not wanting to unintentionally offend him. His parents could be a shop owner of sorts, and maybe he was proud of his parents shop. Nodding her head again, Kai kept walking, weaving through the streets. She was surprised to hear he had a brother with him on Eden, although she wasn't sure why. She had seen a few sets of family members here together. It would only make sense for there to be people who were related by blood. She had Grayson after all. Sure he wasn't blood, but she figured since they knew each other they both wouldn't be accepted into the program. " Well I am sure glad you are right, would hate for your brother to me upset with you?" she said playfully, allowing herself to be more outgoing momentarily. "I would assume they have all sorts of delicious flavours. Always experimenting for better kinds of ice cream to offer. Or at least they will be. Even if they only make a variation of ice cream for now it's better then nothing. Puréeing frozen fruit would work until a better maker is found." she said, rambling until she realized she was rambling and shut her mouth quickly.

"It'd be worse if he was right," Everett replied, more to himself than her. His tone did hold a hint of a laugh though.
"Sounds like you know more about making ice cream than I do. Maybe sometime we could try it? Could wind up a total disaster or we could make some major cash." Everett grinned. It was while he was formulating this money making scheme that he paused, suddenly fascinated. Several feet away was a fruit bearing tree. He'd noticed them before but none so close to him. Everett couldn't pass up the opportunity. Even though he knew fully well that she was leading him where he requested, Everett diverted from the path she set and strode, instead, to the cherry tree. He wasn't the biggest fan but he didn't hate them, and they made fantastic ice cream toppers.
"Hey, look. Fruit," Everett was already reaching up to pull some from the branches. Yeah, so it was stealing in broad daylight, but he hadn't hopped any fences. This particular tree was clearly hanging beyond the fenced in area. Truth be told, he wasn't even hungry. Just easily amused, it would seem.
"I really want a fruit tree. Seems useful, you know?" Everett's gaze finally shifted from the tree to the general direction Kai had last been before he got sidetracked. Shamelessly, the teen even extended his hand outward in offering, as if to coax Kai into joining his cherry-stealing stint. player ! COBALT

Kai nodded her head understandingly, keeping quiet, that would be rather unfortunate. Especially when you had tried your best to reassure someone only to have it blow up in your face. It was hard enough being away from your home, throw in having no reassurances from home, like ice cream, and the transition would even be harder. She shrugged her shoulders in response to his statement, she had just seen it made before, and thankfully tasted some. It was pretty good, although it was no chocolate ice cream. But hey, beggars can't be choosers. "I can show you. I myself never made it, but I have seen it done a few times." she said her cheeks turning red in blush. She was worried that she might let him down. Despite the fact that she had just met him, she would hate to do so. It was weird, but he was her attempt at being more outgoing, not so withdrawn from social interactions. As she walked she looked to where he should be and stopped, for he had changed his path, making his way towards a cherry tree. The friut did look delicious, and she couldn't deny she wanted a tase. She knew it wasn't their to try though, and fear kept her from advancing to close to the tree. It seemed someone had already laid claim to it. She glanced around nervously, looking for someone who might yell at them, maybe even punish them. But none came forward... taking a deep breath, she slowly reached her hand out and took the other boys hand, allowing herself to near the tree. "Only one." she said breathlessly, clearly nervous.

Everett grinned, feeling downright cheerful that she took his hand. With the hand that held the two cherries he'd picked moments before, he closed his hand and made a conspirator's soundless "shhh" gesture to hush her. He wasn't that nervous, but her hesitation before made it seem like she was a bit more uncertain. As an afterthought, he pocketed the two cherries he'd been holding, just so he didn't smush them by mistake.
"C'mon, step up here," Everett lightly tugged at her hand, more to indicate the direction than to force her into action. Whether she moved or not, the twenty year old stepped onto the bottom rung of the fence, using his free hand to brace himself. He was hoping that by standing on the fence, she'd find it easier to reach them than simply reaching directly up the way he had.
"Look, here are some," Everett moved his hand for a few moments to gesture to a cluster of cherries before his hand fell back to the fence once more.
"Do you have a favorite fruit?" Everett quizzed, leaving out the next sentence to come to mind: let's find that one next. player ! COBALT

Looking up at him, Kai felt heat come to her cheeks, she wasn't prepared for his reaction when she actually followed through with his plan. He seemed downright happy. It was nice to see, even though she didn't really know him, it just seemed everyone on Eden needed to smile more. The move had been stressful for them all. Nervously, she returned the smile. She nodded her head, knowing she wouldn't make a sound even if she wanted to her throat all but constricted. Her eyes wide, she nodded, as she watched him carefully, allowing him to pull her to where he was standing. Her body thrummed with nervous energy and she swore she was vibrating slightly. She never did stuff like this, always way to nervous about the consequences. Plus it wasn't like her parents allowed her enough freedom back at home for trouble like this. Watching him, she followed suit, although she was clearly not as confident about it as he. Reaching up to where he mentioned, she pulled a couple of the ripe pieces do fruit off the cherry tree. "I did it!" she exclaimed! although her voice was much like a whisper. Standing there she looked down at the first in her hand in wonder. She had done it. Looking back up to him at his question she shrugged her shoulders. She definitely would have to think on it. "I think it would be a mango." she admitted finally! her eyes going wide again as she realized his intentions.
